My speech about S-219

Bill to create a national day of commemoration of the exodus of Vietnamese refugees and their acceptance in Canada

I rose in the House of Commons on Thursday, February 5 to talk about this bill. My opinion is that this bill should continue the legislative process and studied by a committee ofthe House of Commons.  And contrary to what happened in the Senate, the testimonies must come from the entire Vietnamese-Canadian community, whether they are for or against S-219.

For me, It was an emotional moment to speak my background. It is also a good opportunity to begin to heal the wounds of the community, fractured by the event of the past. Moreover, it seemed important to me to highlight the gaps in terms of Human rights in Vietnam, especially freedom of expression.
