KATHRYN SPIRIT: MP ANNE QUACH AND ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS ARE TAKING ACTION

SALABERRY-DE-VALLEYFIELD — Community efforts to have the federal government seize the Kathryn Spirit are continuing with an e-petition tabled by a member of the public and sponsored by NDP MP Anne Minh-Thu Quach (Salaberry—Suroît). Ms. Quach has the support of several environmental groups.

“I am proud to sponsor the riding’s first e-petition calling for the wreck of the Kathryn Spirit to be seized. Although the minister has denied me a seat on the working group into the wreck, I will continue working to ensure that the Liberals won’t let the issue drag on for another four years,” said Anne Quach.

Ambioterra, Coalition Eau Secours, Réseau québécois des groupes écologistes (RQGE), la SCABRIC et le Comité de réhabilitation de la rivière Châteauguay are among the environmental groups supporting the petition and local efforts to deal with the Kathryn Spirit.

“Environmental groups and the public have sent a clear message: the wreck needs to be dismantled quickly before we have an environmental and public health disaster on our hands,” said the MP.

Salaberry—Suroît residents can choose either the paper or electronic version of the petition by returning the postage-free reply card in the householder arriving by mail. The petition will also be available at the MP’s offices in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield or online at https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-160.
