Information session on Energy East in Rigaud

November 5th, 2014 - 2:57pm

SAINT-LAZARE – The MP for Vaudreuil–Soulanges, Jamie Nicholls, is inviting his constituents to attend an information session on TransCanada’s Energy East project on Friday, November 14.

The 4,600-km pipeline would transport more than a million barrels of crude oil a day from Western Canada to refineries and terminals in Quebec and New Brunswick.

“The pipeline’s route appears to pass right through Rigaud and Pointe-Fortune,” explained Nicholls. “People in the riding are worried, and I want to give them the opportunity to discuss the project with some experts.”

Two speakers will appear at the event in Rigaud: Alexandre Desjardins, a lawyer with the environmental law organization Centre québécois du droit de l'environnement, and Rosa Galvez, Chair of Laval University’s Department of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering. The MP will also be joined by the citizens’ group Les Citoyens au Courant.

“We will talk about the benefits and the dreaded consequences,” said Nicholls. “We will answer many questions about the economy, the environment, house values, health issues, water quality, and more. The event will be worthwhile whether you are simply curious about the issue or have followed it closely for a long time.”

This public meeting is scheduled for Friday, November 14, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Paul-Brasseur Building in Rigaud (10 Saint-Jean Baptiste Street East).
