Conservatives Must Not Gamble Away Our Healthcare: Quach

OTTAWA – New Democrat Deputy Critic for Health Anne Minh-Thu Quach (Beauharnois-Salaberry) slammed the Conservatives for breaking their healthcare funding promise yesterday.
“Conservatives are breaking the promise they made during the election to maintain the 6 per cent funding escalator. This government already wants to gamble with Canadians’ retirement funds. It’s now doing the same with healthcare funding by tying it to our GDP,” said Quach. “Conservatives don’t seem to understand that people still get sick when the economy slows down.”
“This plan is completely out-of-touch and Canadian families cannot rely on Stephen Harper to protect their health care”, added Quach. “We need more doctors and nurses, more long-term beds and shorter wait times. But all we get from the Conservatives on health care is inaction and funding cuts.”
The MP for Beauharnois-Salaberry also underlined that New Democrats have been urging the government to negotiate in good-faith with the provinces on a stable funding plan to improve frontline health care delivery.
“Front-line healthcare must be protected. The federal government must provide the leadership needed to ensure health care gets the stable funding it needs”, concluded Quach.
